About Materials Sciences

Materials science is a science that studies the organizational structure, properties, production processes and performance of materials and their interrelationships, integrating physics, chemistry, and metallurgy. Materials science is an applied science that is inseparable from engineering technology.

Materials are substances that humans use to make machines, components, devices, and other products. Materials can be classified in a number of ways. According to physical and chemical properties, it is divided into metal materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, organic polymer materials and composite materials. According to the use, it is divided into electronic materials, aerospace materials, building materials, energy materials, biological materials, etc. In practical applications, it is often divided into structural materials and functional materials. Structural materials are based on mechanical properties and are used to manufacture force-based components. Structural materials also have requirements for physical properties or chemical properties, such as gloss, thermal conductivity, radiation resistance, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., depending on the use of the material, the performance requirements are also different. Functional materials are mainly a class of materials made by utilizing the physical, chemical properties or biological phenomena of substances in different responses to external changes, such as semiconductor materials, superconducting materials, optoelectronic materials, magnetic materials, etc.
