Single Crystal CaCO3 (Calcite)

Single Crystal CaCO3 (Calcite)

Calcite for sale is a negative uniaxial crystal that has high birefringence, wide spectral transmission and availability in reasonably sized rhombs. It’s good material used as visible and near IR polarizers and retardation plate. CaCO3 is the chemical formula for the mineral. PAM XIAMEN carefully inspects the raw calcite crystals which is grown by nature, and provides Calcite component with the highest quality and lowest price. The specification of single crystal CaCO3 thin film offered as following:

The nature CaCO3 single crystal has strong birefringence function and maximum polarized light function, which cannot be manufactured and cannot be replaced artificially.

3. About the Birefringence of Single Crystal CaCO3

The birefringence, also called double refraction, of single calcite crystal was first come up in 1669 by Rasmus Bartholin, a Danish scientist. when the wavelength is ≈590 nm, the refractive indices of Iceland Spar are normally 1.658 and abnormally 1.486. When the wavelength is between 190nm and 1700nm, the normal refractive index of calcite single crystal is changed between 1.9 and 1.5, while the abnormal is changed between 1.6 and 1.4.

Double refraction is one of the important characteristics of calcite. When a beam of light passes through the medium and splits into two different beams, double refraction occurs, one beam travels slowly, and the other beam travels quickly. Two different light beams are bent at two different refraction angles. Because of this property, the person observing through the calcite will see two images. This property of birefringence is a valuable function for many optical applications.
